A bit of a mad moan....
Published on May 21, 2006 By Sally jacobs In Entertainment
I am SICK of seeing Friends. I don't think a single day goes past when I don't see a little bit of an episode of Friends. I was watching television today, and saw an old episode of friends. Fine...I guess, I can just about live with that. I watch a bit of it....then I flick through the channels again, and yet again I stumble across Friends! So again I leave it on, and I'm thinking to myself, this looks familiar (forgetting the other hundred times I've seen it) and it's only the episode that I was watching a minute ago on another station! I mean come on, there is only so much Friends you can take. I admit, that when it first started, it was great! It was funny, and it was new, and I enjoyed it. Now I am just sick of the sight of the lot of them. I am sick of episodes that I have seen sooooooo many times before, and I am sick of the same jokes that were funny the first hundred times I saw them! Now you could argue that I don't have to watch them...I'm not forced to. That would be correct. However, it would appear the only way I am completely going to escape Friends, is by not turning the TV on at all!

Now the only thing that I find more irritating than Friends at the moment, is the people that LOVE Friends. They don't just love it, ohhh no! They LOVE it. *sigh* I have one Friend who proudly tells everyone they meet that they have every episode of Friends on DVD. Fair play, if you like it. Not that you need them, because it is repeated on TV soooo much! They didn't appreciate me pointing this out, for some reason....I don't know why. Another thing this person does...which in many ways is even more annoying, is they compare EVERYTHING to Friends. I think the shows are all called "The one where...."(Rachel has a baby). This person actually quotes the shows, and says well this situation is like the time Rachel did this...blah blah. I actually questioned them about this, and their rather defenisive response was, everyone speaks the universal language of Friends....we have all seen the episodes, we all know about the show. YES! Because we are bloody forced to watch it so often!

I know I sound like I'm really moany, but I think that this is an evil twist of fate. There are many shows that are repeated all the time, and say for example there is 20 episodes in a series. I will just see the same 10 over and over again. There will be episodes that I just never see. They just repeat the same ones. Maybe this isn't the case, and I just feel like I am hard done by! All I have to say is....thanks Rachel, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Monica for the memories. Truely I appreciate them. Can they be exactly that though....memories! Please stop tortuting me!

OMG Sally, has someone tied you to a recliner and placed toothpicks in your eyes and forced you to watch Friends over and over - lol! Here's the cure. Just stop watching Friends. When you flip channels flip right past it. Don't stop to see which one it is. You need a Friends break, a Friends vacation. Then someday when you're an old lady you'll enjoy watching them on Nick at Night.

Hey, we have a couple of channels here that do the same with The Simpsons. I think the only thing worse than a Simpsons tragic is a Friends tragic. There has to be a point where someone has to say to these people "Get a life and not Bart, Chandler, or Rachel's either".

I guess Friends has joined that elite fraternity of shows like M*A*S*H, Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch, and a few others... That is, "The shows that are played at least once a day even though they were cancelled years ago".

I guess everyone with a TV just needs to get used to the idea.

LOL - Sally I'm one of those people who has all 10 seasons on DVD but we don't have Friends on free to air televison anymore.
I also have the first 5 seasons of Red Dwarf, 4 seasons of Coupling, 3 seasons of Frontline and 2 seasons of the West Wing. (2 & 3)
Currently I'm West Wing obsessed but we've also been watching alot of Blackadder and QI lately. (Nick is a big Stephen Fry fan)

Hehe...no! It sure feels like it though. I just can't seem to escape it. You are right though, I just need to stop watching and ignore it completely. The sad thing is, I do like it, but enough is enough! I will stop watching, I promise!

Yes, I was going to mention the simpsons! They do that here alot, but friends seems to annoy me more! Aww I would of had Rachels life if it involved going home to Brad every night. Oops crossover into what's reality and what isn't, I'm getting as bad as them!

Haha Trina, you don't surprise me! the West Wing is ace. I do really like that, and Red Dwarf is just a classic. I understand you having Friends, especially if you can't watch it on TV. Do you watch the episodes alot? I tell you, if I could buy a Neighbours DVD boxset, I'd be well in there!

Okay, confession time: we have the entire season of Firefly on DVD, as well as the first season of Lost and the first 2 seasons of Babylon Five (we're currently waiting for the third season to be delivered). It might not be as tragic as having all the Friends series but it is up there.

Ahhh Maso, I forgive you! Hehe! I don't get lost at all. I think I would need the DVDs so I can watch it a few times, so it sinks in! Now that's tragic!

'Lost' has to be one of the best shows to come up in recent years. Sure, there are confusing elements about it, but I must admit, I do like the intrigue. Incidentally, having it on DVD makes no difference whatsoever .

We have the entire firefly series too. As well as 1 nigella 4 jamie olivers, the best of kingswood country, the best of the comedy company and the first season of the office, but I didn't feel they were relevant

I got the first 3 seasons of friends for my 22nd birthday and then collected the rest of the series until christmas this year when I got season 8 & 9 and then bought 10 myself.
I've watched the first 5 seasons three times since getting them and the other five twice. I'm about due to start rewatching the first few seasons again -- they are the best. My favourite episode is Season 2 episode 6 The one with the Baby on the Bus.

I'm not sure I could stand a Neighbours boxset - especially the episodes now I haven't watched Neighbours in about 3 months it's so bad. I could stand say a 5/6 disc BEST of set. Not just the really famous scenes but whole episodes of the major storylines and more of the famous scenes. Like the whole episode of Scott & Charlene's wedding, or the one where Todd got killed, the whole episode of Toady & Dees wedding or when Drew died - all those Weddings, Births & Deaths of the last 20years
But I wouldn't want 4,000 episodes because some of them are truly awful.

I worked with a "Friends" person. She had the dance Monica and Ross do at some party memorized and performed it at a talent show with her boyfriend. It was scary.

Unfortunately, I'm a "MASH" person and a "Buffy" and "Star Trek: TNG" person for that matter... so I guess I can't talk much. However, I do NOT refer to the characters as if they were real people that I was aquainted with (though I talk about Tolkien that way" and I only quote or reference my favorite shows about once a week -- if that. (Again, LotR is a different story)

Good article!

I whole heartedly empathize/sympathize. I cannot stand the show. (My sister loves it though...)

*shakes head* I don't put it in the frat. M*A*S*H, Gilligan's, and BB are a whole lot better than friends was--or could be. (But hey, that's my opinion.)

(Maybe I never liked it cause I couldn't stand most of the cast...maybe?)

Honest Lost just flies right over my pretty little head. I don't like not knowing what's going to happen, and that feeling that no one who writes it knows where it's going either!

Hehe...I love Jamie Oliver. He is completely adorable! I never really watched his cooking show though, I watched the one where he set up the restaurant with the kids, and more recently the school dinners one.

My favourite episode is Season 2 episode 6 The one with the Baby on the Bus.

Wow Trina, you really do like Friends! I know which episode you mean, haha....grrr@me! I don't think I have a favourite episode, not one that sticks out anyway. I've had a well deserved break from Friends, and I am feeling better for it!

Ohhh I'd love it. I am a complete Neighbours addict. I never tire of it. I loved Todd. You see I'd love to see these old characters again! I'm sure they must be repeated somewhere....

....see I would of had to of run away from her. These people completely irritate me!

Unfortunately, I'm a "MASH" person and a "Buffy" and "Star Trek: TNG" person for that matter... so I guess I can't talk much.

Oh I can't really talk either. I loved Angel, and many years ago I was addicted to the OC, and at the moment I can't cope without my fix of Smallville. I'm like a 14 year old in a 22 year olds body, haha!

I whole heartedly empathize/sympathize. I cannot stand the show. (My sister loves it though...)

Ahh thanks, at least I'm not alone!

(Maybe I never liked it cause I couldn't stand most of the cast...maybe?)

Yer, I can't say I'm fond of the cast (hence the title, hehe!).
