Here's to the future

Well the election is done. The decision has been made. I am seeing alot of articles around here about what, coulda, shoulda and woulda. Speaking as a Brit I can't say i am thrilled about the decision that was reached. However, it was a decision that had to be made by the American people, and a decision they will have to live with for the next four years. So for their sakes I hope it was the right one. There is little point in looking at what could of been. The more I learn about Bush and the more I hear about him, the more I grow to distrust him, I don't think that point of view will change any time soon. I do think people need to look forward though. He is here, he isn't going anywhere, and he will be the most powerful man in the world. Like him or not, this means respect. That he will get. No doubt.

I have read alot of the articles here, and seen alot on the news about the election. The thing that is striking me the most, and the line people seem to be using the most is, ' The American people chose fear, not hope'. At first hearing this I didn't buy it. Surely the nation that is known for it's American dream, and hope could not have let fear beat them. Kerry offered change, and maybe America is not ready for change. Maybe they need to stay in the place that they are in now. They have unfinished business, and Bush is the man to take care of that. I don't think America is afraid. I think it is stronger than it has ever been. It may have one or two wounds, that it is still licking, but these wounds have only made America stronger. It has only united its people even more. It has only made them value human life that bit more. To embrace everyday, to actually live their lives. America is the land of opportunity, not the land to live in fear.

These times seem to be unsettling for everyone. We are living in times that are seeing great changes and not all for the best. Keeping Bush has shown America is not ready for some of these changes. It will be though. America is split at the moment. I hope that they can come together and get through the next four years, for the sake of everyone. I hope Bush doesn't distance himself, and America further from Europe. I hope that the Iraq situation is somehow a success, even if that means no more lives are taken. I know that won't be the case, but that is all we can do, hope. As I said at the start, I was disappointed with the election and the result it brought. When I say this, I mean it, I wish you luck America, and I hope you made the right decision, for yourself, and the rest of the world. Here is to the future. No point in looking back now.

Hey Sal,

Are you a Blair fan?
Do you think that because Howard (dammit I don't like Peter Costello) and Bush (I don't know about this yet - for that I'd have to know who I wanted to win in the first place and I don't know that much about politics) both were re-elected by what could be construed as a landslide Victory, that Tony Blair really doesn't have much to worry about??
Is this a good thing?

You are wrong, as are your continental friends.

We chose Bush because the rest of the world will not protect us,so we must protect ourselves.  your UN, your Anti-Balir, your French, your German.

What have they done?  The french? nothing! The Germans? Scared because of Hitler (and rightly so).  The British?  Stiff upper lip as always!  As Australia, NZ.  Why?  Because we know the right choice is always the least popular.

Tell your drivel to the Jews in the 30 and 40s.  Tell your dead to ignore their murderes!

Hey Trina nice to see you here. I am not anti-Blair. I think a labour governement here will work better for us than anything else. However I don't agree with his actions regarding the Iraq war, and that goes for many people here in England. Bush winning the election is a good thing for Blair because they have supported each other. However, I think Blair will have a much tougher time, I think he will win, but not by a landslide. The people here are very frustrated with him, and feel that he falsely lead us to war, and that he didn't consider our interests or what we wanted when doing so. We will take some convincing. It will be a lesser of two evils though, but isn't it always with these things?

Dr Guy, I don't really know what to say. I think you are right that America did choose the best choice for protecting themselves. Is their motto at the moment the best form of defense, attack? Attack everyone that gets in your way, no matter what. I wonder after four years if there will be anyone left to attack. You don't have to fight to solve every bad situation, and you may want to stand alone right now, but at some point you will need you allies. Where will they be. Don't cut off all your options just yet.

Thankyou for the comments x
