Yet more blood is spilt...
Things seem to hit home alot more when they are exactly that, close to home. Which is a shame. Because it shouldn't, this war has killed alot of people, but it never quite touches you till you see people crying, and hurting, and actually seeing the lives these statistics touch, hearing the words of Ken Bigley's family, the British hostage held by Iraqi kidnappers was nothing less than heartbreaking. Last night the kidnappers declared that unless their demands were met, there is a chance in the next twenty four hours Ken Bigley could be killed. Fears of his family are growing as one of his two American colleagues was beheaded. A sickening video of Eugene Armstrongs murder was posted on a website. Why? Why do people need to see this. It's sickening. People may say this is the real world, deal with it. Forget that. How can people doing this live with themselves.
A hooded militant said of the new deadline: "The fate of the infidel was cutting off the head. You have a 24-hour opportunity. Abide by our demand in full and release all the Muslim women, otherwise the head of the other will follow this one."
The terrorist threatened to kill Mr Bigley and fellow hostage Jack Hensley unless women prisoners are released from Iraqi jails. Now I know terrible awful things have happened in this war. People of different nationalities have being killed. Somehow it never feels real though, then you get this big kick in the teeth. You see someone crying for their husband, father, son, and boy does it kick you in the teeth. Life has it's own price. His family have to watch this being played out on the news. The life of someone they care about in the hands of sick individuals, in the hands of a government, that realises to win the war, there has to be a sacrifice of human life. A sacrfice, that in my opinion is to high. When you watch the television it is for the most part, a form of entertainment, and escapism for some. For this mans family it is a lifeline. The only hope they have of keeping track of the man they love. The only thing that is keeping them sane at this time.
My thoughts tonight are with Ken Bigley, Jack Hensley, Eugene Armstrong and their families. My thoughts stretch so much further I can't even begin to explain. For all the innocents this war has touched, and for those it still is going to touch. It's a sad world we live in, and I can only hope that it will get better, one day. Unfortunately there will be alot more blood shed before we reach that day. A price to pay for a peaceful world?
