"Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood."

Right clever folks of JU, I need a little help and advice.  I have written about this topic before, but I just never got that far with it.  I want to do a podcast.  My very own podcast, but that's about as far as I have got with it, and I really don't know what else to do about it.  I know I will need some kind of recording equipment?  I have heard audacity is good voice recording equpiment?  Though I would really like to find some software that records skype conversations.  Does anyone know what does that?  Also I know that I would then have to convert it to a RSS feed?  Am I correct in thinking that?   Then I have to convert it (huh?) into mp3 form?  Then I have to publish it.....and then finally find a good website that hosts podcasts.  Phew!  I just don't have a clue?  So any advice would be really welcomed.  Please keep in mind that I am not very technically minded, so if I appear to be pretty stupid on this topic, it's probably because I am .  So please be gentle with me

A podcast is alot like a radio show, that people can listen to online, and download to their ipods.

Thanks Eric!  You are a star...I might even let you listen to my first podcast now, you lucky dawg!

Podshow.com you can setup, upload, and even get an itunes link from this site. ALL FREE.

We podcast our weekly church service thru podshow, and most people just use iTunes to have it automatically download the podcast.

Podshow does put in a "ad" before and after your podcast, but sine they charge nothing for storage space and bandwidth it think its more than worth the trade off.

good luck

So what on earth are you going to podcast about? Gosh girl you must have a lot to say!

I can't think of any reason I'd need to do such a thing, but then again you've got a lot on your mind, judging from all of your articles you write

I guess people would want to hear me as much as they would want to hear some crazy hillbilly on the mic

...I just have a big gob!  I'm not doing it on my own anyway, so I guess it will be a bit of variety.

What a lot of nonsense, Sally.

Ahh Petey!  I've missed you and your words of support

go to www.wikipedia.com and search on Podcast and Podcasting.

There are a plethora of information out there about how to podcast.

You can use www.odeo.com to set up your own podcast and might even have some recording software on there. If you have your own website or access to some space, which might work, you can use Wordpress (www.wordpress.org) and Podpress (www.mightyseek.com), which is a plug in for Wordpress that makes the blogging software a Podcasting friendly interface. You can also pay 5 bucks a month and use Libsyn (www.libsyn.com), which is your hosting service and website (easy to setup) and is not that expensive. It also works with or without a domain name. I use them. These 3 should also take care of the RSS for you, making it simpler.

You can also check out AudioHijackPro, which I think can record Skype, but not sure as I use HotRecorder, which I would not recommend for recording from Skype. There are technical issues.

I have my own podcast at www.painbank.com and have been doing it since Nov 2005.

Yes, Audacity is free and can be used for recording.

there is a ton of stuff you can do, only some of which is free, but once you get into a bit, you will probably not mind spending the money. My suggestion is to also buy a book on the subject, which can help tremendously for ideas as well as how to do it. I have O'Reilly's Podcasting Hacks, which I would recommend.

iTunes acts as a podcatcher and will receive any updates if you have subscribed to the RSS feed of ANY podcast not just Podshow.
