"Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood."

I could not get through life without laughing and joking.  I have noticed that recently there have been quite a few comedians here who have really had me laughing.  Many of them are quite on the edge of political correctness, and that just seems to amuse me even more.  You can usually find this kind of humour on the alternative cable channels, where they are hidden away.  The BBC has some hilarious comedy shows such as Little britain, and Three non-blondes, who are just a couple of my favourites.  So what I am interested in is, who your favourite comedian at the moment is and why?  My favourite at the moment is Peter Kay...here's a clip for those of you who don't know.....

So JU....who makes you laugh?

One of my favourite sitcoms of all time is "The Young Ones", followed closely by "Fawlty Towers". We Yanks don't have quite the knack for comedy that you have on your side of the pond.

As for comedians, I would list Steven Wright as my all time favourite. I would also have to put "Weird Al" Yankovic high on the list, even though he's technically a musician. John Cleese (of course) is another biggie.

Sally, you're right on the button with Peter Kay and I love his accent. My close number two has to be Joe Pasquale.

Little Britain is great and I'm also a big Coogan fan. I cannot say I enjoy "The Office"--it is just not me, but being an ex-pat I miss the Royle Family and I have watched every episode of Fawlty Towers at least ten times.

I love Carlos Mencia and Conan O Brien. Mencia has me almost peeing my pants everytime I watch his show and he never seems to get old and repetitive like so many do. Conan is so crazy and goofy. I definately have to laugh. It really helps me get over myself when i'm having a crappy day. I love watching comedies and comedians.

Many make me laugh, but Bill Cosby is my favorite.  Especially his book Fatherhood!

Oh...I can't pick just one...that would be unfair. I like mostly every comedian that can at least make me chuckle. In fact, I may be obsessed with stand-up comedy....I just can't get enough.

Jerry Seinfeld, Garry Shandling, Bill Hicks, Richard Lewis, Paul Reiser, Red Buttons, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Robert Klein, Woody Allen, Margaret Cho, Emo Phillips, George Carlin, the Firesign Theatre, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Mitch Hedberg, Howard Stern, see, I'm real old school-- too many to list. I'm not a big fans of too many new comics- they're either too obvious, or their life experiences come from watching TV. I need someone who's known real pain to bring out the laughter.

Bill Hicks, always and forever.

A comedian and a philosopher, my kinda guy.

Much love Sal, sorry I've been appearing and disappearing and not commenting much on anything or anyone really. I DO read when I can, but you know what I'm like with comments. Things are a tad chaotic with move etc.

How are you anyways?

Take care girl,

Shovel...

The Young Ones is fantastic, and I also really liked Bottom!  That was SO funny!

I never got the office either.  Just wasn't my kind of thing.  The Royle Family is coming back for a christmas special I believe.  Fawlty Towers is a little before my time.  Though I have seen the odd episode!

I have never heard of either of those....but I shall have a look around for them and see what I think!

Ahhh Bill Cosby!  It doesn't get much better than him!

There is nothing wrong with that!  Laughing is good for the soul

Yes I have to agree, many of it is what you have seen before.  They just aren't real enough, and sometimes you need to feel they have lived through an experience.  Many bad experiences in my life I have managed to find some humour in them, just to deal with them a little better!

It is just nice to see you babe!  I am glad you're good, and it's nice to see a comment off you.  I'm doing good at the moment, but you know what I'm like, my world could be ending tomorrow!  I am going to run off to your blog now and see what delights you have left me to read, hehe!

Thanks for the comments x

I have to say I could always rely on "Carlton Banks" in The Fresh Prince for a laugh!

I don't have any favorite comedian, but I do prefer American sitcoms to the British ones.

Lets not forget "Niles Crane" from Frasier. His behaviour around "Daphne" is always a giggle!

I loved his and Frasier's little ditty! It was my wife's favorite show, and an easy present for her as I am getting her season after season on DVD!
