I always knew as a chick I was a little richer than men, but now it's official. According to the Inland Revenue there are now more female millionaires aged between 18 and 44 than there are males. Currently women own 48% of the nation's personal wealth, but there are predictions this will rise to 60% by 2025.

Nicola Horlick, herself an extremely successful business woman, launched Bramdiva, a financial advisory service for women with assets of a million pounds or more. She started trying to make a name for herself in the 80's when it was much more difficult for women to get a foot in the door of any business. We all know the difficulties for women in the workplace. Some places are completely dominated by men and for women to even get a look in, it is impossible. At one time women tried to compete with men. Copy their behaviour and try to rise to their level. Unfortunately it wasn't a level playing field. Times are changing though.

Not all women want to stay at work. Many work until they are in the 35 age bracket and then they may stay at home and look after the family, have children, and by the time they return to work, things aren't looking good for them. So what is a woman to do? Well many women are starting their own businesses. There are about 700,000 female-run companies in Britain, bringing in a revenue of about £130bn. As a result of this many more women are becoming millionaires. Three-quarters of any rich list is people starting their own business, and women are starting to show a significant growth in this area.

Their appears to be a different approach in the way that female entrepreneurs manage their staff. They believe it is important to give a positive image to their staff, and to lead by example. They also thing women have clearer heads, and set their goals more specifically. Men seem to give up alot easier and try many different things, where as, apparently women are more likely to stick at it.

Another thing that is making more women millionaires is.....that's right folks, divorce. More women are becoming millionaires because of the huge settlements they are recieving from their rich husbands. Marriages are great investment opportunites for women!

Which ever way you decide to make your millions ladies, be warned, to be in a position where you never have to work again you are looking at making £5-10m, just to live off your investment income!

Sally this is a really interesting article.

I have had a few businesses over they years.

The 1st one I sold at a profit. Good one!

The 2nd one - I had a restaurant and take away but kept telling the customers to stop being so damned impatient in not so polite words and of course I shut the doors in a very short space of time. *raises eyes to the sky and remembers deliberately spilling a plate of soup in someones lap in temper* I live - but I never learn.

I then opened a domestic cleaning business, the work just rolled in, loads of contracts - no staff willing to clean homes, so I packed it up after about 8 months. hrumph - very frustrating!

Then I opened an import company importing baths and showers from China, it took off like a boaing (spelling?) and came crashing down when the products started developing major quality issues, cost me an absolute fortune in refunds and compensation payouts etc. needless to say I shut the doors. I did enjoy my trip to China though, the food was excellent (seafoods).

I have now set my sights on working for someone else for a change.

I tried but failed in making my millions, but have absolutely no regrets, it was good while it lasted!

The only way I am going to get millions now is to win the Lotto!

That explains why my ex is on there.

Tween you me and the fence post, I could never run a restaurant for that reason as well.

Interesting figures, Sally. I wonder if it will see a rise in reverse gold-digging too?

What was it and why did you sell it? You didn't say anything bad about it so I wonder if this may have been the million dollar business you are looking for but gave away.

I feel you, I worked for a fast food (almost the same) and people just have no patience for something that only takes a few minutes to cook. You would wonder if people ever consider the fact that they are eating something that cooks in a few minutes that would normally take them at least a half an hour to make at home.

I then opened a domestic cleaning business, the work just rolled in, loads of contracts - no staff willing to clean homes, so I packed it up after about 8 months. hrumph - very frustrating!

No illegals in your area? Just look for latino women, trust me, they love to clean and they love to get paid for it to. Just ask my mom.

Quality issues with made in China products? How is that possible?

I have now set my sights on working for someone else for a change.

Well just make sure the owner is not considering selling the business, a restaurant, where you have to clean things that could be made in China. Otherwise you'll be fine.

Thanks chick

Haha, that would be me, I have no patience for idiots (I mean customers!)

I have now set my sights on working for someone else for a change.

Oooh what kind of work are you looking for?

That explains why my ex is on there.

Interesting figures, Sally. I wonder if it will see a rise in reverse gold-digging too?

I'm sure it will eventually.  I wouldn't mind a toyboy half my age when I'm old, even if it is just for my money!

Once you're a millionaire, Sally, will you be my sugar momma?

Haha course I will babe

Thanks for the comments x

I hope this trend continues. I may be a man, but my wife is a woman, and she does want to open a business...

Cool, that really increases my chances of hooking up with a rich old broad so I can retire wealthy.

I thought when I read the title that this was going to be the old joke. You know, the money my wife earns is her's and the money I earn is her's.

Are we talking about reverse gold digging ? all you have to do is go to Eastern Europe, where every man on the block has an agenda. Anberin Pasha a well known documentary film maker from the US was assigned to a NGO in Belgrade. Her young inspired mind to save the world and help the cause left her bereft of her home and family, trapped by the mother of the man she loved who betrayed her and tortured mentaly by the mother & son duo. With no escape in sight as the evil woman has custody of her eleven month old sons travel documents. Women if they are not in a position to manage their lives at their terms had best think otherwise before they venture into any relationship.
