"Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood."
Lordi Lordi! Hehe....So I have a guilty pleasure, that I indulge myself in once a year. Every year the reason for doing so becomes less and less unclear, but yet I still put myself through it. So what am I talking about? Well that my friends would be the Eurovision song contest. *Holds head in shame*. Now for those of you who don't know what it is, first of all consider yourselves lucky, it pretty much explains itself. Musical artists (I use that term loosely) represent countries from around Europe and they all sing in a big competition. Then all the different Countries taking part give scores out (1-12 I think), and the place with the highest score wins.

The UK always does really badly in it. You see there are alot of politics involved in how everyone scores, usually favouring their neighbours rather than who actually sang the best song. The last few years the UK has been left with zero points. Mostly because the majority of Europe isn't very fond of us, I wonder why that is. The saving grace of the eurovision is Terry Wogan. He has a commentary going from the start to finish of the competition, that is just pure comedy. Commenting on the ridiculous outfits, and the awful singing.

You know like I said the UK gets a hard time of it? Well we don't really help ourselves. This years song was by a guy called Daz sampson. Who is a middle aged white man. Who did a rap song, called 'Teenage Life', with school girls dancing around him. You see what I mean? There is just no helping ourselves.

The winners were a group from Finland, called Lordi! Lordi is the right word. They were monsters, quite literally.

I just don't see how anyone can take this competition seriously. I watch it for the pure comedy value. That these people come out really seriously, and they do some completely ridiculous routine, and everyone goes mad for them. I better be careful what I say. Hardcore Eurovision fans will be out for my blood! They are a passionate bunch! I suppose they have to be. I do enjoy the competition, I just think it's ridiculous how seriously it is taken. The bloke that represented us Daz, said he was going to go around Europe, and build some bridges before the actual competition. I guess he must of done something right, because we at least got some points, even though we did still do terriblely bad. Now I know this may just sound like sour grapes. Oh we didn't win because no one likes us, and it is all politics. It really is though. If you watch the scoring, Terry always predicts who will get the top points, usually because it is the Country right next door! Haha!

If none of you have never had the pleasure of watching the Eurovision, you should at least watch it once. Put aside your musical tastes for a few hours, and just enjoy the humour of the whole situation. It gave me a giggle! I've linked the winner, in case anyone wants to have a look!

Lordi made it on to the commercial news here, believe it or not. Those Fins sure know how to put on a good show...

I can't bring myself to watch the Eurovision. Every bone in my musical body rebels against the thought. I'm sure if I was forced to watch 15 minutes of it, I would probably implode.

But seriously, almost all of the songs I've heard come out of a Eurovision win are universally dreadful, with maybe an exception for Abba (not that I'm a fan but I can't fault their pop credibilities).

I'm glad there are people like you to watch it and tell the rest of us how bad it consistently is... Thanks
