"Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood."
We are all very different people. We like different things. Different things upset us. Different things make us cry. That's just the way life goes. We will all have many different people in our lives. Friends, relatives, people we work with, go to school with. So we will know many different kinds of people and be able to get along with them. However, there will be one person that you get on with better than anyone else. That one person who is your best friend. Who you click with better than anyone else. Who understands you. Who you understand. They are the people I want to hear about. The question is.......who is your best friend? I'll start this one off.....

My best friend is probably also the person that irritates me the most. Who knows which buttons to press and how to get a reaction out of me. He knows all my weak spots. He knows how I think. He only needs to hear a few words from me and he knows what kind of mood I'm in and what I'm thinking. He knows what will make me smile. What will make me upset. He cares when I'm upset. He tells me when I am annoying. He doesn't put up with any of my crap.

This wasn't something that happened over night, many hours were put in to build a friendship like this. It wasn't easy. Sometimes I can be really difficult and I don't know why he puts up with me. Though he can actually be a stroppy little madam himself, so I guess it pans out. We didn't click straight away. I am not really sure when it happened. Just one day we was here, at this point. He actually annoyed me at first. I didn't like him much at all. He talked alot, about nothing at all, hehe. I kind of find that sweet now, haha! I think the most important part of our friendship is that we share a similar sense of humour. Generally the same things make us laugh, and we know what to say to make the other laugh. I think that's important.

I also trust him. I don't trust many people, but I know that he wouldn't let me down. If I needed him, he would do what he could to help me. If I had a problem, he would listen to me, and offer advice. If I was really upset, he would try and make it better. I know that he's a good person. He has his faults, but then who doesn't? I can be a horror at times, but he is still here. I can talk to him about anything, just waffle away, and time flies. That truely is a best friend, and I love him for it .

So JU, who is your best friend?

This is Michele, Evenn before I read MMs response I knew my answer . My best friend bar none is MM. He has been my best friend for what going on 4 yrs ?? Even before we met each other face to face I considered him my best friend. Not a day goes by without me thinking of him, wondering how he is doing today and sure as shit within minutes of me thinking of him the phone will ring and it is him. We have such a tight connection it is truely amazing. He is always there for me no matter what and I for him. I hate this darn 3,000 mile distance we have with each other but we do manage to see each other at least once a year. It is coming up to my visit with him and his beautiful wife and I cannot wait til i get there.sometimes this distance is painful but knowing that I will see him again is all I need. They may not be able to get rid of me when I come again..

I agree with MM and you.  My best friend is my wife, and she is also the one that can push that button real easy!  Because she is my best friend.

My best friend is my son, of 29 years.  You've described perfectly in your blog how our relationship is.

I can count on him when there's nothing else or no one else.

Nuf said!  he's a good kid!

Good article Sal!

My best friend and I have steadily drifted apart, which makes me sad as hell, but as much as I try to be caring and understanding, he seems to have gotten more self obsessed than me (And I thought that was impossible) and is only interested in talking about his own problems. So I'm currently best friendless, but anyone interested can apply for this esteemed position.

take care dear

My best friend right now (because I'm not on the married side of things, still kicking it as a single) is my buddy Matt. We've been friends for years, and even as he's gotten to know me better, and know my past he hasn't ever shunned me. We've drifted a bit lately, because of schedules and busy lives (and HIS girlfriend, I must admit) but he's still the best I've got.

MM and Michele, I'm really impressed that you two manage to keep your friendship so strong over such a far distance, that shows alot of dedication on both parts!

What do we find to talk about? Only GOD knows.

Haha....I know that feeling. Me and my best friend can talk for hours about absolutely nothing, and I do wonder how we pass the time!

Did you two meet online? I hope you don't mind me asking......

My best friend is my wife, and she is also the one that can push that button real easy!

Ahh yes, these best friends certainly know what makes us tick! Not always a good thing if you are annoyed with each other!

I can count on him when there's nothing else or no one else.

He sounds like an angel! You did a good job with him hun

Hey Dyl, it's so nice to see you! I'm guessing that you are talking about Holden? I was wondering, because I haven't heard you mention him for a while. You two seemed to have a really tight bond, maybe you both just need a little break and things will be better soon. I would apply for the position, but I am extremely annoying and I couldn't put you through that, hehe! Take care chick x

even as he's gotten to know me better, and know my past he hasn't ever shunned me

That's what best friends are for! They accept you just the way you are, and wouldn't have you any other way!

We've drifted a bit lately, because of schedules and busy lives (and HIS girlfriend, I must admit) but he's still the best I've got.

I'm sure things will get better, new love interests and stuff can distract us for a while, but friends last forever!

Hello All, My best friend, as others her, is my wife. We are about to celebrate 25 years of marriage and have very different points of view on many things, but we care about each other deeply and have learned together that it is the heart rather than the head that rules. Be well.

Wow that takes hard work on both your parts. You must have a real connection!

Wow 25 years, that's impressive! Well done. Different points of view can be fun. It's what keeps things interesting.

Thanks for sharing all xxx

I am married and my husband is def NOT my best friend.

A best friend to me is someone I can talk too while getting our hair cut, or manicures. A gal pal who likes the same things I do, and likes to laugh a lot. But mostly SHE is someone who has been through life as a woman...something my husband could never "get." No more than I can "get" being a man.

My husband is my friend, and I'd rather spend time with him than with anyone else (including my best gal pal). But when I want to chat about my period, or how the kids are driving me nuts, or makeup, or that new lady on the street who lets her kids ride their dirt bikes on the pavement, whatever...I go to my best gal pal. My husband would listen, but that's about it. He wouldn't be "living" it. If that makes sense.

I agree with Tova. My wife is more than my bestfriend so I don't put her in that category (those of you familiar with the Jewish idea of bashert will understand).

If I had to pick, my best friend is my fellow writer Johnny MasudaLink. Met him in grad school back in the late 1980's and he's always been as close as a brother. So, I salute you Johnny Masuda. Also, buy his book Link

LOL

Might be hard to get an objective opinion about the new cut though. Or in your case the scoop on long and bearded.

Objectivity is highly over rated.
