"Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood."

I am not religious. I don't follow a particular religion. I don't tie myself to one way of thinking and that's it closed off to everything else. I do have respect for religion. I think that you should give these things the respect they deserve. People who are religious, I have respect for them, for having so much faith in their beliefs. That can only be good. It isn't for me. I don't need anyone to tell me how to think, anyone to tell me the rights and wrongs of my life. They are decisions I will make for myself, I will follow my own path, and I will quite happily deal with the consequences of that when I have to, because at least I was being true to myself. That's all I can do, do what's right by me. Now the Christmas period has being taken over of recent times. It's all about presents, and the commercial side, and the real meaning of Christmas some how gets lost. Going to my Gramps today, who are highly religious, I was reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. I think some people need to be reminded of that. It is a time for celebration though, a time for family. A time to realise who means most to you. To spend time being thankful they are in your life.

Christmas for me has changed a great deal since I was a child. It's no longer magical and full of fun. It's a task. Buying presents, spending a certain amount of time with certain people. All the things I have to do, and none of what I want to do. It takes the fun out of it. I still want to believe in the magic. Forget the hassle, and enjoy the simple things. Presents are good, but they aren't everything. There's more to it than that. Since I lost the magic, the only magic for Christmas I can create is that after a certian amount of alcohol has passed my lips. Christmas films are fabulous. My favourite has to be The little Match Girl. A film I haven't seen for years, but I love dearly. There is something nice about the whole family settling down and watching a nice festive film. We are slightly over dosed on them around the Christmas period, but we are over dosed on everything at Christmas, so it's only fair. There is currently a ratings war going on between two major channels here in England. Well there is always a war, but it gets more intense as Christmas approaches. This year the BBC won. By paying ten million to air the first Harry Potter film. The Harry Potter films have being a huge film, and I can't imagine that there are many people who haven't seen that first film. Still families settled down to watch it. The books are loved by children and adults alike, and they are magic.

The Church of England has made a complaint about this film being shown, especially on Christmas day. Churchmen say wizardry and witchcraft give kids the wrong message — especially at Christmas.
A Church of England spokesman said: “The BBC has picked the least suitable time to show it.

“Harry Potter portrays witchcraft and black magic in a fictional way but it is capitalising on the supernatural.”

Andrew Carey, son of the former Archbishop of Canterbury, said: “The Harry Potter books are full of magic, witches, wizards, spells, ghosts, poltergeists and all the other stuff that we associate with the occult — and we see the occult as something dangerous.”

*sigh* I am a very opinoinated young lady. I have an opinion on just about everything. Sometimes it gets me in trouble. But what the heck. I also think people have to live their own life. One of my pet hates is being preached too. People do things that are wrong, and then they have to live with the consequences of it. I am a firm believer in karma. Things really do come back and bite you in the ass. I got alot of karma coming my way I'm sure. I don't believe in going on at people. I hate drugs, as I've said. I would never go on at a drug user though. They are aware of what can happen and they still do it. So be it. Let them do it, if they are lucky they will come out the other side and be a better person for it. That's what they want to do. Children can't watch a film because it promotes witchcraft. I have one thing to say to the Church of England, get a grip please. I realise that you would probably like people to be zombies, and follow you blindly. Lets give children a bit of credit that they can think a little for themselves, and lets allow them a little magic. It's not evil. Its not brainwashing. It's just Christmas. If you don't like it, change the channel.

His first reply on this thread was not directed at her. I think they should both play nicely.

Wow some people do tend to get carried away, on such a enjoyable fantasy as the Potter series, these books do no promote devil worship or the black arts, if anyone were to take notice the theme is generally the same old one good "V" evil, some people are so hung up on church teaching and hiding behind their own myths, they tend to miss the messages of Jesus, you know like love thy neighbour, respect other and be tolerant and compasionate, I see a lot of good things happening and a lot of fantasy in the potter films and books, I am yet to see any evidence of evil. I might add that I have had several discussions with our local Priest, and he syas that the general view of the church is that it is a bit of harmless fantasy, just like snow white, and many other fairy tales, which generally have the same message. It would be good to see some of the above to learn this message, again things like respect , tolerance and compassion. I would expect that Jesus would have a good laugh at those that choose to judge the Potter books and Films as evil, and I also believe the last place you would find him would be with the ultra conservative christians who are so critical of so much, and so judgemental, it's at this point I am reminded of the Stoning where Jesus was quoted as saying the following, "Let those without sin be the first to throw stones", or the other quote which is so often forgotten in the literal world of these people. "Judge not or you will be Judged", after all if Jesus was to come among us today I believe these same people would probably not want to know him, just like the Conservative Orthodox Jews of his time did, you could say that he would be percieved as a commie pinko.

So to all that have no life and wish to take away what is harmless fantasy for children and adults alike I say get a life.

It is not the place for peasants to speak out of turn to me, I would not accept this at my estate or at Maxwell Industries so I will not accept it anywhere else. All peasants concerned must apologise immediately.

Nope, I'm in America and I'll be damned if we're the the extension of some third rate wanna-be has-been world power. We threw your ugly butts back across the Atlanic quite some time ago. So the statement stands. Bugger Off!
And just and FYI this blog site is in America also. So it's not an extension either!

This year Britain takes control of G-8, I really do not see the justification for what you just said. Britain is now the most powerful nation in Europe.

America is merely a cheap and nasty version of England. You will always be in our shadow you uncouth peasant. It is no wonder Americans are so disliked, they are all so foul-mouthed and ignorant of other nations.

Wherever you are, I am still your social master, and you must obey me.

By the way, you still owe the UK billions, we would like it back or there shall be consequences.
