Urban Legend Part Two
Published on July 29, 2006 By Sally jacobs In Misc

There is a really annoying advert doing the rounds here in sunny 'ol England at the moment.  It's for Kellogs Frosties.  It has a jingle that is so annoying that you can't help but sing it.  It only takes seeing the advert once, and you are hooked trust me.  They are going to taste greeeeeeeeeeat!  Here's the link for you brave souls that are into self abuse Link.  I have to say I find this kid, and the advert extremely annoying.  I was at my sisters the other day, and she asked me about the advert, and if I knew it, which just made me rant about how much I hated it.  She interrupted me, and informed me the boy from this advert was dead, he had commited suicide because he had got bullied at school about the advert.  I felt awful!  Luckily I wasn't fully convinced.  I mean if such a thing had happened, surely the advert would be pulled, right?  So as usual who did I turn too?  You got it, google!

I found the Urban Legends page, and yes, this is simply another one that is doing the rounds *sigh*.  There is also a rumour that the boy isn't real at all!

"In a secondary form of the legend, a grieving father who had lost his son to cancer succeeded, via the magic of technology, in having his deceased child inserted into the ad as a final tribute to the boy (possibly because it was the lad's dying wish). Here the youngster's flatness of tone was, by implication, explained by the rumor: the oddly-sung jingle was the result of its having been pieced together after the boy's death from recordings made of him during his brief lifetime. "

Strange, very strange indeed.  So Kellogs were contacted and this is what they had to say;

The current advertisement has been well received by the vast majority of our customers. We would also like to take this opportunity to confirm that the lead boy within the advertisement is well and continues to live in his native South Africa.

As no one knows the name of the boy, and Kellogs won't release it, I guess we will just have to take their word for it.  I very much doubt they would lie.  It's strange just how easily rumours can be started!

It is funny how crazy rumors get started...I know there are a few I can share, but I'll have to get back to you when the fog in my head clears (it may take a while).

Speaking of annoying commercials, there is one that comes out mostly during the game show Jeopardy that I HATE. This is exactly how the commercial goes:

"Head On...Apply Directly to the Forehead. Head On...Apply Directly to the Forehead. Head On...Apply Directly to the Forhead."

That's it! They repeat the same sentence three times...
(It's a topical sort of relief for headaches, btw)

My b/f laughs at me because I tell him I'm going to write to that company complaining that their ad annoys the crap out of me.

If the ad is as annoying as you say, Sally, maybe the rumour of the boy's death is just wishful thinking carried one step further by disgruntled television viewers. Either way, urban legends make for a great laugh.

You really would!  It is so annoying (I did put a link in for the ad) my Mum loves the boy in it though, she thinks he is really cute, different strokes for different folks I guess!

Yeah I think you maybe right...even if that is a little cruel!  Some of them have me giggling to myself, and I'm always one of the stupid ones that believes them *sigh*

I will never eat another frosty again. The young lad in the addvert is portrayed as a manic psychotic. He uses agressive street bodylanguage, he has no regard for those arround him and iff i were his parents id be searching his room for drugs pronto. If thats what frosties do to children then mine wont be eating that again. Are they coated in sugar or street grade speed ?.
